On horseback
The Arco dei Baci ride, at a walk along the west coast cliffs, on calm Quarter Horses with a western saddle. About 2 hours, about 5.2 km, beginners welcome. Riders 14+, max 95 kg.
By quad
The panoramic coastal quad tour: about half a day and 20–25 km of tracks and viewpoints, with briefing and practice at the ranch first. One quad for the two of you; the driver needs a category B licence.
For two people
€250 for both experiences. The photos the guides take during the ride and the quad tour are included.
Why do both?
Because they show you two different islands. On horseback the coast is slow and quiet: you hear the wind in the scrub and have time to look at every rock. On the quad the island opens up — watchtowers, the southern cape, the empty tracks of the interior — and the day gets a bit more adventurous.
It is the experience couples and friends choose when they cannot decide, and the one that gives the fullest picture of Sant’Antioco and south-west Sardinia in a single booking.
Groups are small on both: never more than six riders on the horse ride and six quads on the tour.
Arrive at the ranch
Carolina Ranch is at Loc. Cala Sapone 11, Sant’Antioco, in south-west Sardinia. You start with a briefing, sign in and get to know the guides who will be with you for both parts of the experience.
Into the saddle
You meet your horses, learn the few simple cues of western riding and try them in the arena. Then out at a walk through the scrub and along the cliffs to the Arco dei Baci natural arch.
Onto the quad
For the quad part: safety briefing, practice laps inside the ranch, then the guide leads the group across tracks and viewpoints of the island, with a few stops along the way. Times for the two parts are agreed with the ranch when you book.
Who it suits
Couples, friends and parents with teenagers of 14 or more. Nobody needs experience with horses or quads; the driver of the quad just needs a category B licence.
